Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy

Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy(1809-1847), German composer, born in Hamburg, family moved to Berlin in 1811, studied music privately then entered the Singakademic, in 1827 he studied at the Berlin University. He traveled widely as conductor in London, Italy, Vienna and Berlin. In 1835 he settled in Leipzing and became the conductor of Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig. He composed operas(seldom performed anymore), 5 symphonies, orchestral music, 3 oratorios, 13 string symphonies, concertos(1 violin, 2 piano), chamber music and songs.


Stamp issued in 2009 for his 200th birth anniversary.
